Giving Your Time a Job

I've had amazing mentors who always talk about Time and how we should be mindful of how we spend it, with whom we spend it, and our overall approach and relationship with how we manage it.

Have you ever thought of giving your time a job?

Imagine a copy of yourself... name it "Time" (easy enough). Picture it with the head of an old watch—let's make a character out of this.

Time Taking Easy

Here's what's interesting: Time never stops. It keeps going as if it has an excessive caffeine intake, keeping it awake 24/7.

Imagine swimming in the river of time, would you flow with it or swim against the current?

If you let it be, it'll just be. Instead, could you give Time a job? Here are five ways I've learned to do this over the past few years.

1. Time to Connect

Whether you're thinking of networking, spending family time, dating, or grabbing a beer with a friend, make sure you give Time a job for connection and building relationships. Connecting is as important as physical activity; it leads to a longer lifespan, lowers anxiety levels, and strengthens our immune system. It can even give you headstarts or show you pathways you've never seen before.

2. Time to Check & Adjust

Even though we can't stop time, we can pause for a bit to review our progress, understand our mistakes, recalibrate our goals, and adjust the path or pivot the road we're taking. It's not about giving up or bringing yourself down but understanding the moment you're in and where you're heading.

3. Time to Get Things Done and Be Creative

Even though creativity comes and goes, you've got to make INTENTIONAL time for it. Whether it's a project you're working on, a call you must prepare for, or a presentation you must nail to get more business or help someone out. Focus on DOING. There's a small gap between routine and achievements, and it's where you DO. Here are three reasons why having time to crank stuff and get creative is important:

  • It sparks innovation.
  • It boosts productivity.
  • It leads to personal growth.

The Human Experience Means Time

4. Time to Recognize the Human Experience We're In

Life is short. In the grand scheme of things, our time here is brief. So, embrace ambition and chase your dreams. Seek awe-inspiring experiences regularly through travel, art, or connecting with inspiring people. Appreciate those around you; express gratitude to family, friends, and colleagues. Live in the moment and celebrate small victories. Reflect on your journey to appreciate your growth. Recognizing these aspects enriches our lives and deepens our connections with others.

5. Time to Give Time to Time (Woah🤯)

Haha, that was fun to write... but it's true. We can't get ahead of time. We can do a lot of the above to make the most out of it and work toward our goals... and no, it's not about just sitting, waiting, and wishing. It's about doing and enjoying time as it goes, enjoying phases, putting in the hours, and being consistent. This applies to everything from gaining muscle mass, climbing a mountain, being promoted, and making your business shine.

Giving your time a job can revolutionize both your personal and professional life.

By intentionally allocating time for connection, reflection, creativity, and recognizing the human experience, you not only enhance your well-being but also drive better business outcomes.

Consider how you can integrate these principles into your daily routine to foster stronger relationships and greater productivity. Reflect on your current strategies and identify areas where a mindful approach to time can lead to innovation and growth.

Let’s work together to keep building an ecosystem of empowered individuals and companies achieving both individual and collective goals.

Keep pushing. Keep dreaming. Keep delivering.
